Tanya Doherty – Malabar

The weather has been against me to say the least at the moment.  Its been from constant cloudless sunrises to absolutely torrential rain it just seemed that i couldn’t hold a shoot together lately.

I was searching on Model Mayhem and i came across Tanya Doherty’s profile for a new fresh faced model to shoot and just like that, as it seemed that the skies cleared up, Tanya and i had locked in a date and location at Malabar to shoot.

Tanya is only a new model to the scene and with a little bit and has a little Scottish accent in her and when being used to only shooting with established models, i was weary of the shots we would get.   I was wrong! Tanya was amazing and listened to direction so well.  I really think that we have come up with some gorgeous images to help not only her but also my portfolio.

Cant wait to shoot with her again.

Sasha and Brock

I have the upmost pride in having two of the best cousins i could ever ask for.  My sister has a son Brock and a Daughter Sasha.  Throughout their short however adventurous life, i have had the great privilege in taking quick photos of them and this was no exception.  Ally and i wanted to do something special for my sister Heidi, and give her something to remember her children with.

To broaden my photography knowledge and skills, i have been practising putting together video and compositing this within After Effects and other various applications.  This is a video of the shots that Ally captured, and composited by me.  I hope you enjoy :)

Fun with Holi Powder

Adding color to a photo is always a winning solution in making an image come alive.  I had recently seen a video of a photographer who was based in the states who took this to a new level by involving coloured powder to help emphasise the shape and movement of the model and this was something that i wanted to try for myself.

I started down a journey of trying to find paint pigment and other materials to use for the shoot but only came up with substances that were either hazardous to health or did not have the right consistency and texture to make this work the way i wanted.

TimTam – eSession

Of late i have been really enjoying my new camera, Canon 1dx.  It really really surprises me with its ability in obtaining stunning images and having a flawless focus system.  This is a far cry from my old Canon 1ds 3 which was primarily a studio focused camera.  Now this may seem that its a little off the topic of the post – and it probably is however i had such enjoyment in shooting an old friend who i lived close to when i was living in Cronulla.

Krystal – Tennis Shoot

I recently shoot with Krystal who we have previously used in our Glamor Workshop sessions. I had never had the opportunity to date to shoot with her 1 on 1 and i had been planning to work with here for some time.

Located directly above our offices, there is a tennis court which we were able to book out and this would be the location for our shoot.

Lindsay and Richard’s Winter Wedding

I had the pleasure of shooting Richard & Lindsay’s Wedding with Jack Chauvel and what a day it was.

The 29th of July 2012 turned out to be a beautiful sunny winter’s day, with a cool breeze but not a rain drop in sight. From the first meeting we had with Richard & Lindsay their choice of locations sounded fantastic. The gorgeous Cardinal Merretti Memorial Chapel at St Paul’s in Manly (known as the ceremony venue for Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban), followed by some photos at Shelly Beach and finishing up with the reception at the ever stunning, The Tea Room at Gunners Barracks.

IT Integrity Executive Team

IT Integrity as some of you may know, i also work for. We are currently in the process of doing a refresh on our own internet website.

Part of the refresh required a photographer to capture the images for the executive team to display on the site.

I had an initial idea of shooting the team with the logo behind their head. The thoughts in my head was have a high octabox to the subject, shoot a second light at the logo on a wall with a grid on this. I thought about the distances and i thought ath f/4 was suitable for this affect i wanted to do. Unfortunately the environment had different thoughts. Light just bounced around way too much and to control the light well enough i would have had to get “too close” to the subjects with lights.
